How to report scams

Why reporting matters

Scams are an unfortunate reality in crypto. If you suspect you’ve been targeted, it’s important to act quickly to protect your funds, secure your accounts, and warn others. While transactions on the blockchain cannot be reversed, reporting scams helps reduce further harm and raises awareness across the community.

How to recognise a scam

Unsolicited messages - Unexpected DMs or emails asking for your recovery phrase or offering unrealistic returns.

Phishing attempts - Fake websites or apps designed to steal wallet details.

Urgent requests - Scammers often create a sense of pressure to act immediately.

Private key requests - No legitimate project or service will ever ask for your private keys or recovery phrase.

⚠️ Important If someone asks for your recovery phrase, it is a scam.

Immediate steps to take

Stop all communication - Block the scammer and take screenshots of any conversations for evidence.

Secure your accounts - Change your email and social media passwords. Enable 2FA if not already active.

Check for unauthorised transactions - Review your wallet activity. If possible, move remaining funds to a new secure wallet.

Do not reuse compromised wallets - Treat them as unsafe once exposed.

Reporting a scam

Report to authorities

Local police - File a report with your local law enforcement.

Cybercrime units - Some regions have specialised fraud and cybercrime teams.

Regulators - Notify financial regulators if applicable in your country.

Report to platforms

Social media - Report fake accounts or groups on Telegram, X, or other platforms.

Phishing websites - Use browser reporting tools or notify the hosting provider.
