Base (ETH)

What is Base?

Here are five key points about the Base blockchain:

Layer 2 scaling: Base is a layer 2 solution for Ethereum, designed to increase throughput and reduce costs. It was launched by Coinbase on 9 August 2023.

EVM compatible: Built on the OP Stack, Base supports the Ethereum Virtual Machine, meaning developers can easily deploy Ethereum-based dApps without changes.

Optimistic rollups: Base batches multiple transactions off-chain and posts them to Ethereum mainnet, improving efficiency while keeping security anchored to Ethereum.

Lower fees: By processing transactions off-chain, Base significantly reduces costs compared to using Ethereum directly.

ETH as gas: Base does not have its own native token. Instead, bridged ETH is used to pay for all transaction fees.

Base on Wraith Wallet

Wraith Wallet supports Base with the following features:

Buy Base ETH with debit or credit cards.

Store ETH and ERC-20 tokens securely.

Send and receive ETH and ERC-20 tokens.

Swap Base ETH to ERC-20 tokens and vice versa.

What are Base ERC-20 tokens?

ERC-20 tokens on Base follow the same standard as those on Ethereum.

Base supports transferring and using Ethereum ERC-20 tokens on its network via bridging.

This means users can access familiar assets like USDC while benefiting from Base’s lower transaction costs.

How to get Base ETH

You can acquire ETH on Base by:

Buying directly in Wraith Wallet.

Receiving ETH to your Base address.

Swapping ERC-20 tokens to ETH (note: you must already have ETH on Base to pay gas fees).

Warning: Only send ETH that has been bridged to Base - not Ethereum mainnet ETH.

Transaction fees on Base

All transactions are paid in Base ETH.

Fees are lower and more predictable than Ethereum mainnet due to rollup batching.

Base is designed to maintain stable costs while scaling activity.

Checking your Base ETH balance

Wraith Wallet connects directly to Base to display your ETH balance.

To confirm, tap the three dots in your wallet and select View address on BaseScan.

BaseScan is Wraith Wallet’s default explorer for Base transactions and balances.

Why use Wraith Wallet for Base?

Simple: Easy to buy, send, and swap ETH and ERC-20 tokens.

Secure: As a self-custodial wallet, you control your funds at all times.

Low fees: Take advantage of Base’s efficient rollup design to transact cheaply.

Conclusion Base brings Ethereum to a broader audience by reducing costs and increasing speed, while keeping full compatibility with Ethereum dApps. With Wraith Wallet, managing ETH and tokens on Base is simple, secure, and efficient.
